TJET wants to increase Tokyo community awareness and have a greater impact on our new JETs!
In coordination with the TJET committee’s JET volunteers and the public school PA, we are starting this program in October. The program matches senior JETs with new JETs for a “Senpai” and “Kohai” tutoring support that has a 6-month term. Usually from October to April or until the end of the current contract date. The first month will be a trial for both sides before fully committing to the remaining months.
Together we will create ideas for lesson activities, guidance on classroom situations, and create a starting conversation on community building among JET participants through the TJET Committe as a platform.
As this is a volunteer program, commitment is based on each individual, so we ask that everyone respect each other professionally or the committee will step in and cancel the mentorship.
Goals[]
- To make the transition into school life easier for new Tokyo JETs
- Create a supportive network amongst TJETs and provide volunteer opportunities
Roles[]
Menors and Mentees will be matched based on the questions answered on the Google form that is share on TJET's SNS accounts.
Mentor[]
Any current or alumni JET that has had at least one year of experience is welcome to be a mentor. We simply ask the mentor to have the desire to serve as a good role model and make a positive impact on the mentee(s)' JET Career. Mentors can contact their mentee(s) in person or online as little as 1-2 hours a month.
Mentee[]
Any current or incoming JET that would like some help is eligible. Whether it be general questions on how to do lessons or wanting to make a connection with another TJET, we encourage anyone interested to sign up. It is up to the mentee to set meeting schedules and goals/objectives for the partnership with their mentor.

Each month of the mentorship a newsletter, Learning Nikki-san日記, will be sent to participants and uploaded here. It will cover ideas for lessons, activities, and case studies.
