Normally income taxes, social insurance (social security / pension), and employment insurance premiums are deducted automatically from your Japanese salary.

The amount of social insurance for the previous month is taken out of each month's salary. For example, the February payment is deducted from the salary you will receive in March.

However, the March and April deductions are somewhat different. Following the above rule, the February payment would be deducted from your March salary and the March payment would be deducted from your April salary, but both the February and March payments are deducted from your March salary. The reason for this is the Japanese fiscal year ends on March 31st. The fiscal year term is strictly enforced and as such it is not possible to deduct insurance premiums from your salary for a month worked in the previous fiscal year.

The insurance premium for April will be deducted the in May. As a result, no social insurance will be deducted from your April salary.
